CTET Syllabus 2019: CTET Exam Pattern Paper I & II Section-Wise Topics

CTET is one of the most premium competitive exams which is conducted by the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education). It is undertaken to certify and examine the candidates to know their eligibility in teaching at the primary level (First to Fifth class) and upper primary level (Sixth to Eighth class).

  • Once the candidates qualify for the exam, they are selected for primary and elementary teachers in Central Government schools.
  • These exams are conducted on two levels and are conducted two times every year in the month of July and December.

Today, we are going to answer all your questions regarding the CTET Exam Syllabus 2019 and CTET exam pattern for both primary and upper primary levels. The aim is that you can be well prepared for your CTET exam 2019 and have the proper information regarding CTET Syllabus.

Subjects of CTET Primary level (Paper 1) for CTET 2019 Syllabus:

  • Child Development and Pedagogy
  • Language first (mandatory)
  • Language second (mandatory)
  • Environmental Studies
  • Mathematics

The total number of questions is 30 per section and a total of 150 questions are asked in the CTET Exam. Each question is allotted one mark for a correct answer and no negative marking is there for an incorrect answer. The minimum qualifying marks for CTET Exam is 60% for general category and 55% for other categories like SC/ST and OBC.

CTET 2019 Syllabus and Exam pattern for Primary level exam:

  • Child Development and Pedagogy

This section ­is assessed to know the candidate’s capability to know and answer the needs of children in a normal school environment and also for children with special needs and basic child psychology questions.

  1. Learning and Pedagogy with a total of 10 questions.
  2. Inclusive Education Concept with a total of 2 questions.
  3. Understanding the children in special needs with a total of 3 questions.
  4. The overall development of a primary school child with a total of 15 questions.
  • Language first and second

The candidates are assessed in this section in the language section and they have a choice of thirty languages to choose from for the CTET Exam language exam.

  1. Language development pedagogy with a total of 15 questions.
  2. Language Comprehension with a total of 15 questions.
  • Environmental Studies

These are the questions to examine the candidate’s knowledge in environmental knowledge and issues and how to address them in a school and teaching environment. The questions are very basic and general and include topics like:

  1. Food and water
  2. Home and shelter
  3. Family and friends
  4. Environment and its issues and all these topics have a total of 15 questions
  5. Pedagogical issues with a total of 15 questions
  • Mathematics

This section is designed to know a person’s knowledge in basic mathematic calculations and how to implement this in teaching style

  1. Simple equations
  2. Algebra
  3. Geometry
  4. Patterns
  5. Measurement
  6. Data handling and analysis with a total of 15 questions in all topics
  7. Pedagogical issues with a total of 15 questions

  • Child Development and Pedagogy
  • Language first (compulsory)
  • Language second (compulsory)
  • Science (Science Students)
  • Social Studies (Non-Science students )
  • Mathematics

CTET Syllabus and Exam pattern of Elementary level exam:

  • Child Development and Pedagogy
    1. Learning and Pedagogy with a total of 10 questions
    2. Inclusive Education Concept with a total of 2 questions
    3. Understanding the children in special needs with a total of 3 questions
    4. The overall development of a primary school child with a total of 15 questions
  • Language first and second (Compulsory)

The candidates are assessed in this section in the language section and they have a choice of thirty languages to choose from for the CTET Exam language exam.

    1. Science Food

    3. Living and non-living things
    4. How things work
    5. Natural phenomena
    6. Resources all with a total of 20 marks

  • Social science

    3. Social and Political life with a total of 40 questions
    4. Pedagogical issues with a total of 20 questions
  • Mathematics
    1. Number system
    2. Algebra
    3. Geometry
    4. Mensuration
    5. Data handling with a total of 20 questions
    6. Pedagogical issues with a total of 10 marks

This is the basic CTET Exam pattern and syllabus with total marks for each section. Please note that for the Level 2 exam, you will have an option to choose from either science or social studies section, If you are a science student, then you can opt for a science subject but in case of commerce or other fields, you can choose the option of social science.

If you will choose the social science section it will include 60 questions alone without the science and mathematics section. Generally, the CTET Exam is taken in offline mode but there is a possibility of the exam being undertaken in Online mode this year, so it is advisable if you yourself familiar with computers and online exams as well.

  • You can take this exam in either English or Hindi only with the exception of the language section of the exam.
  • The CTET exam is going to take place in December this year and you should check the website for issuance of admit cards before the exams which will most probably in November this year.

Important reminders if you are planning to undertake this exam:

  • The applicant must be an Indian.
  • Age restrictions are not there but the applicant should at least be 17 years of age.
  • For the primary teacher, the candidate should be passed in the senior secondary with minimum 50 percent marks and a Degree of B.Ed. or equivalent diploma in education.
  • For Elementary teacher, the candidate must be a graduate and passed with minimum 50 percent marks and a B.Ed. degree or a 2-year diploma in elementary education.
  • The CTET scores are valid for 3 years after you have cleared the exam and you can get the jobs in Central Government Schools after an interview.
