1. Schindler’s List producer and Holocaust survivor Branko dies at 87

  • Croatian film producer Branko Lustig, who won the Academy Awards for Best Picture for Steven Spielberg’s ‘Schindler’s List’ and for Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’, passed away at the age of 87.
  • Branko, who was also a Holocaust survivor, died in Zagreb, Croatia.
  • He received his first Academy Award for best picture in 1994 as a producer on “Schindler’s List,” along with Spielberg and Gerald R. Molen.

2. Rs 12,000 crore Nadu-Nedu programme in Andhra Pradesh

  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy launched the ‘Nadu-Nedu’ programme to introduce English medium from classes 1 to 6 in state-run schools.
  • Under the scheme, the government will transform all its schools with the required infrastructure, including setting up English Labs, besides providing basic amenities like furniture, toilets, running water, compound wall, blackboard, renovation.

3. India set to host 2019 World Kabaddi Cup from December 1 to 9

8. Bangladesh tops business bribery risk in South Asia

  • Bangladesh has the highest business bribery risk among South Asian courtiers, according to the Trace Bribery Matrix which releases annual ranking for 200 countries. The Matrix evaluates countries under four parameters which are business interaction with the government, anti-bribery deterrence, transparency and civil society oversight.
  • Bangladesh is in 178th position among 200 countries. The report suggests that Bangladesh has a high expectation of bribes and a high degree of government interaction in business.
  • The report informs that the high risk of bribery is there due to high regulatory burden on business.
  • Afghanistan (168) and Pakistan (153) are other countries where bribery risk is high in South Asia.
  • In South Asia, Bhutan (52) has the least risk of bribery as it is placed at 52 in the ranking.
  • India is in 78th place with a total risk score of 48.
  • Bangladesh gets a score of 86 in Business Interactions with Government domain. The ranking was based on a high level of government’s interaction and high regulatory burden.
